Spring is upon us, the birds are in the trees, the sun is charging the batteries, and the Last Resort's garden is coming back to life with the help of our residents. Everything is waking up outside, but inside, the JFC has been ceaselessly buzzing all throughout the dark season!

First up, a long overdue welcome to the Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy, which has taken up administrative residence at the Judith Fisher Centre, joining the Lasqueti Internet Access Society and the Lasqueti Food Bank as residents of our happy little hub of island activity.

Speaking of activity, there's rarely been a quiet day at the JFC for the last several months – we've hosted the LCA's parking committee and climate action committee, the Xwe'etay / Lasqueti Archaeology Project, local community meetings, audiologist clinics for the public and for the fire department, COVID and flu vaccination clinics through Island Health, Local Trust Committee and Advisory Planning Commission meetings for Islands Trust, and visits from qRD and from the Rural Coordination Centre of BC. The women's choir filled the centre with music. Pachiel started a chess club. Firefighters and first responders received special trainings. Meditators meditated. Writers and counsellors held workshops. PLWUS, LIRA, and LINC all held their AGMs onsite. All this in addition to Dianne's regular nurse clinic calendar and Pia's massage offerings.

Thanks go out to Darcy Pascall, Ron Chernick, and Bob Kearney for keeping the lights on, the water flowing, and the heat running for all of our users and our three residents! And special thanks to Ray Lipovsky for his ongoing systems expertise, and to Adam Enright for all the ways he shows up and goes above and beyond – we love ya, buddy!

Behind the scenes, the Board of the Lasqueti Last Resort Society has been hard at work trying to arrange for regular blood draws to be carried out at the JFC. Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive response to our Lab Draw survey, we've been negotiating with LifeLabs, which has been receptive and helpful in trying to navigate the logistic complexities and bureaucratic hoops in play. There are hurdles, but we hope to be able to find a solution that will work for the island soon.

Lastly, mark your calendars for the LLRS AGM at 1pm on Saturday, June 24th after the Saturday market. Ever considered joining the Board of Directors? Now's your chance! As always, any questions about LLRS membership or use of the JFC can be sent to healthcentre@lasqueti.ca or 8891.

Cheers, and happy Spring, Ian Rusconi, Administrator
